Landscape and Nature Photography

I live in Northern Ireland’s Mid Ulster region, and most of the photos on this site were taken close to home — with the occasional trip to Belfast, Derry, or Portrush. Nothing fancy or exotic, just the everyday beauty of the place I live.

Between work and family life, I’ve come to appreciate the quiet pockets of time in my day. Instead of waiting around, I use those moments to walk, observe, and photograph whatever catches my eye. Those in-between minutes keep my mind active, and when I do get the chance, I enjoy the occasional longer walk or hike — a slower, more immersive way to take in the landscape.

My photography journey began in the summer of 2003 with a Canon PowerShot A70. It was my second digital camera but the first one that felt proper — 3.2 megapixels, which was impressive at the time and good enough for A4 prints (not that I printed much). It ran on four AA batteries, and with rechargeables it lasted ages.

Before that, in early 2001, I bought my first digital camera: the Samsung Digimax 800K, along with my first computer from PC World. The camera had an 800K resolution (0.8 megapixels) at 1024×768 — bigger than most monitors back then. The image quality was poor even in good light, and it devoured two AA batteries faster than anything I’ve ever owned. The 2 MB SmartMedia card held only 11 photos, and sometimes the batteries died before I even filled it. It was a constant battle to keep it alive. But to be fair, it cost around £100 and sat firmly at the bottom end of the early‑2000s digital camera world.

These days, I’m drawn to colour, light, and simple compositions. I enjoy the slower, quieter side of life — the things we often overlook in a fast‑paced world. Most of the time I’m documenting nature, weather, and everyday scenes here in Northern Ireland.

I do share photos on Instagram and Facebook now and then, but those platforms aren’t great for organising images by category, month, year, or season. They also crop photos into preset ratios, which doesn’t always suit the composition. That’s why I built this website: a place where I can organise my work properly and present it the way it was meant to be seen.

I hope you enjoy exploring my landscape and nature photography — and occasionally some urban scenes too, though I’m starting with those first.
